These lights are designed to go off after movement has ceased generally within 30 to 60 seconds. Many times this can go bad causing the light to stay on or off. I have an outdoor lamp post light that stopped working. Your outdoor sensor lights are not working or they seem less sensitive than usual.

You always want to rule out the simplest problem first so before you go digging for wires check to see if you have power at the outlet that is connected to your outdoor lighting system. Each light has a dusk to dawn sensor screwed into the socket but only one light will burn at a time. Check for loose wiring on the receptacle and re insert the tester into the receptacle. If your yard light connects through a receptacle in the junction box plug your tester into the receptacle as if you were plugging in a lamp.

Both plug in lamp cords and cords that tether hanging fixtures can come loose from the socket terminals the internal fixture wiring or the plug terminals. I have tried several bulbs a new light socket and a separate lamp connected to the two power lines black and white. Electrical wiring for light fixtures. Be sure to check the light fixture specifications for specific lamp replacement information.

Take you 2 wire tester and test the wires on the lamp as follows hot to neutral hot to ground. If those look ok replace the cord. You are going to use it for a reference. Your motion sensor light stays on.

Move the cord and or fixture into a range of contortions get creative to see if the light goes on even for a moment. I have dusk to dawn sensors in the lamps outside of my garage. Plug the extension cord into a know working outlet not a gfci. When one burns out it has to be replaced before the light will work.

Most cfl lamps do not work well in outdoor lights however incandescent or halogen lamps generally work best. If so check the cord connections. Run the cord out to the post light. I does not light.

It sounds obvious but sometimes people forget this crucial detail. I have checked the power to the light many times it keeps lighting the 120v on the power checker. If the tester does not light up remove the outlet cover. If the tester still does not light up replace the receptacle.
